Staff Interviews
Marketing Services Dept.
9th Year

ー What was the deciding factor for joining Newport?
The job description caught my eye, since it involved product sales at event locations as well as to wholesale clients. Everyone I interviewed with was very polite and kind, which was a great introduction to the company. Add to that my interest in English, and the CEO is an American, I felt Newport was a good fit for me.
ー Tell us about your job.
My main responsibility is being an intermediary between clients and sales agents. That mostly involves sales promotion execution as well as event coordination. Mostly, I do my best to create an environment that makes it easier for sales staff to close with customers.
ー What's most the most satisfying part?
There's nothing like the feeling of increasing sales after a complicated collaboration between Newport, clients and sales agents. The strategies we come up with are multifaceted, so we sometimes have to get creative to make them work. When our plans come through, we gain new insights on top of that satisfying feeling of a job well-done.

ー Tell us about the culture at Newport.
I think it's great. The division of roles is clear, and everyone feels responsibility to get things done right. There's a lot of laughter during meetings, and our opinions are actually heard. Additionally, I have young children in school, and Newport lets me switch to remote work or take leave when they're suddenly out sick. I really feel supported by Newport.
ー What do you think of your manager?
My manager is strict but compassionate. He clearly defines objectives, and he respects individual opinions when setting goals for the team. I'm allowed to think independently and take initiative, and I've grown as a result. And if I need help, I can rely on him to always provide helpful advice.
ー Do you have a message for someone considering Newport?
Newport lets you take your own initiative and face challenges to grow in your career. If you have enthusiasm for what you want to do, there're many opportunities for leveling up your personal and professional skills. Compared to my previous jobs, I feel like I've grown much more here, and that I continue to grow.

Incoco
2nd Year

ー What was the deciding factor for joining Newport?
I wanted to leverage my experience in retail, and also challenge myself in the B2B field from scratch. Personally, I love nail products, and being able to deliver those directly to customers was exactly the kind of opportunity I was looking for! With my final interview with the CEO, I really felt Newport valued each employee. Once I joined, I felt heard when I expressed what I wanted to do to contribute to the Incoco team. In return, I was given clear expectations and guidance in how to progress in my job.
ー Tell us about your job.
I do sales for Incoco nail sheets, which includes developing new clients and nurturing existing customers. My efforts contribute to increasing customer sales, especially with proposals to fit client needs and creating sales displays. A job in sales in Japan may seem straightforward, but I go a step further by having a direct hand in the crafting of promotional materials, event planning, and even giving feedback for product development.
ー What's most the most satisfying part?
When my ideas for new nail designs are well-received by customers, I feel a strong sense of validation in my work. I even get hands-on sometimes and interact with customers. I remember a sales staff person saying, "This work is so much fun because you can brighten customers' days just by spicing up their nails!" When everyone from the customer to the staff is happy, I'm ecstatic!
Talking with store personnel keeps every day fresh. That direct communication keeps me up-to-date on the latest product trends, and I can put that feedback right back into product development and promotional materials.

ー Tell us about the culture at Newport.
The flat organization within the team makes it easy to express opinions. You can share your thoughts and opinions freely. Many of the staff speak English, and that's always exciting to hear. Once per-quarter, we have company-wide parties, so I get to interact with most everyone at Newport.
ー What do you think of your manager?
She's very calm and provides advice from an objective perspective. Regardless of who approaches her, she keeps her head about her and isn't swayed by emotion, so I always feel comfortable coming to her for advice. She's always thinking long-term, which I aspire to improve, especially for risk management.
